Coordinate reference systems and datums for GNSS surveys
Coordinates need a reference frame, units and height definition to be interpreted correctly.
Numbers alone do not identify a place precisely
A coordinate reference system defines how coordinates relate to the Earth. A datum or frame realization, projection and units form part of that interpretation. Two coordinate lists can look similar while representing different reference assumptions, and adding more decimal places cannot resolve that mismatch.

Write the reference information before measuring
Agree the horizontal and vertical references with the project team. Confirm that the base, correction service, controller and office software use compatible settings. Include the complete reference description in exports so the next user does not have to guess how to place or transform the survey.

Practical checklist
- Document horizontal and vertical references and units.
- Compare base, rover and office coordinate settings.
- Carry reference information into the final deliverable.
Plan your GNSS setup
Compare the EQ10 and EQ20 receiver specifications, then discuss the configuration and support your project needs.
