A GNSS stakeout workflow from design to as-built check

Reliable stakeout begins with the design reference and ends with a recorded check of the placed point.

A GNSS stakeout workflow from design to as-built check

Prepare the design before going to the point

Check the design revision, point identifiers, coordinate system, height type and units before importing a layout file. Test a known control point with the active receiver setup. A correct RTK solution cannot identify that the operator imported an older drawing or selected a point from the wrong project.

Close the loop after placement

Approach the point using suitable guidance, review the required residuals and confirm the intended mark. Record what was actually placed rather than only saving the design coordinates. For important work, use the project independent-check method so the same mistake is not repeated in both layout and verification.

Practical checklist

Practical checklist

  1. Validate the design file and active receiver setup.
  2. Record the actual placed-point observations.
  3. Apply the project independent-check procedure.
